A Ton of Japanese Animation Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season offer a wealth of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than checking the headlines: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and employing patience techniques to not snapping at relatives. It is wished you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting announcements came out during the holidays, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (By 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest announcement, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter further production. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio known for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the conclusion of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not yet been announced.
