Eulogies Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Over a fortnight following the shocking loss of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he just recently felt ready to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has passed that I can finally articulate my loss into words," shared Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "As we began sharing more moments together I realized this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the film, remarking that he could not remember "any day without mirth".
"The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Principles that Rob cherished deeply. Which is among the many reasons he was the ideal person to guide it," Elwes wrote.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, stating: "To say that they were a incredible duo would be an understatement. My heart still hurts every time I recall you." He ended with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Colleague and Comrade
In a distinct essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge decided to block the disclosure of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive put a restriction on the cases to restrict the public release of "any investigative information, documents, files or images" pertaining to the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a official listing citing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
After the tragedy, public figures expressed different reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, providing provocative remarks that were met with immediate backlash by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his criticism to the detractors last week. Conversing on his program, Rogan characterized the statements as "disappointing" and remarked they showed a concerning absence of compassion.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an adviser could have intervened when the impulse to comment on the death was made.
