The person reveals that last night, they had served themself "just one glass" to relax following a long day. One glass became another, then three. It's a habit they've developed over time; an unspoken practice that helps the person "disconnect" from the constant thoughts that overwhelm their consciousness when their schedule eventually slows down.

Rising Trend: Relying on Alcohol to Cope With Worry

This experience mirrors what I have been observing increasingly frequently in my practice. As a counsellor, it's clear a significant development: an increasing percentage of individuals that are using alcohol to manage their stress.

Studies reveals that around 34.9% of adults who drank beverages did so to reduce pressure and a substantial percentage to deal with anxiety.

Acknowledging Contemporary Distress Experience

We exist in an era of known as contemporary stress triggers. Never have we been so frequently informed of emergencies, tensions and uncertainty. Even when we turn off technology, the anxieties persist of money worries, job insecurity, climate fears and psychological weariness that accompanies experiencing so powerless.

This Problematic Loop of Alcohol Dependency

For many, a beverage during the evening of daily activities transforms into a quiet escape. But even though substances may seem to provide immediate ease, it might intensify worry with continued use, disrupting sleep, heightening bodily tension and eroding psychological fortitude.
