Russian Military Official Loses His Life in Moscow Explosion, Officials Confirm.

A high-ranking Russian general has been fatally wounded following an detonation in Moscow, according to an investigative body.

The attack took place on Monday morning when an explosive device concealed beneath a vehicle exploded, resulting in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.

Investigators mentioned that one possible explanation points to the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has not issued a comment.

Media coverage suggest the detonation took place in a parking area near a residential building.

Since the onset of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military officials have been targeted within Moscow.

This latest event echoes other notable incidents, such as:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a bomb concealed on a scooter was triggered from afar.

While a Ukrainian source in the past connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are never publicly admitted as a matter of official stance.

Hostilities has witnessed clandestine operations reaching into the center of the Russian capital.

The examination into General Sarvarov's death continues to be underway.
