The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial championship series following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."

Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that situation besides Springer with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of the series," he continued.

Toronto's team secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
