The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
