Trump Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Personnel to White House

President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.

He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Tragic Incident

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.

White House Offer

The president explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed the press. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Support

Attendees gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to support law enforcement in DC.

Honoring Beckstrom

“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to help others.”

Funeral arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments

Officials have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The event led the administration to halt asylum processing and cease issuing entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Wolfe

The airman, a native of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

Attorney general Bondi told a news show that she aimed to visit his relatives.

Impact of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey told the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
